Bookmobile stopping throughout Sparta community

Darla Schroeder brought books to those in the Sparta Area School District Thursday.

The Lawrence Lawson Elementary School Library Media Specialist stopped at local parks, schools and community
centers with the Bookmobile that offered books for check-out, story time and activities for those attending.

“This is a way to get books to kids. Studies show how important it is to have books in the hands of kids,” Schroeder said.

The Bookmobile is stopping at Lawrence Lawson, West Side Park, Lugar de Reunion and Gomez Park every two weeks this summer. The next route will be done on July 12 at 9:30 a.m. at Lawrence Lawson; 10:30 a.m. at West Side Park; 11:45 a.m. at Lugar de Reunion; and 1 p.m. at Gomez Park.

Second grader Ashton Bayer checked out “Dragonbreath and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” books and took time to look at the iPads with his dad and sister Dylynn during Thursday’s stop at West Side Park. “I like reading,” he said.

Trey Manske, who will be in kindergartren this fall, checked-out Thomas the Train, Elephant and Piggy, and Superman books during a Bookmobile stop two weeks ago. He took time to look at the pictures.

During the Thursday stop, Brianna Anderson, a third grade student, said a highlight were the story time books from the “Pete the Cat" series that had Schroeder and her daughter Grace acting out the scenes. “It was really funny,” she said.
