Homecoming week at Sparta High; court announced

Homecoming activities began Friday, Sept. 21, with an Opening Ceremony in the Alton Ask Gym at Sparta High School. The Homecoming Court was announced at this time. Members include Jon Brey, Dan Dawley, Tanner Helsel, Zach Herrman, Mark Hughes, Jake Hutchinson, Jaden Roddick, Haylee, Laufenberg, Schannel Giraud, Emily Fendt, Jacinda Pfaff, and Allyson Wiedl.

The 2012 theme is "We are ... SPARTA," an Olympian theme to highlight "many members, one TEAM." Each class has been assigned an Olympic Ring color for decoration purposes including hall decorating, window painting and float building. The focus on all activities is not on the opposing team, but the unity of the team of Spartans. A closing ceremony will wrap-up the week at the football game Friday, Sept. 28.

Daily assemblies will begin at 10:27 a.m. Events include:
Monday, Sept. 24: Spirit Couch, Homecoming Court intros/bios, How to "Airband" Like a Spartan, Ugly Men, "Olympic" event and medals ceremony, Victory Cry.

Tuesday, Sept. 25: Spirit Couch, staff skit, How to "Call Me Maybe" Like a Spartan, Ugly Men update, "Olympic" event of the day and medals ceremony; Hall Decoration/Window Painting Winners/HC Week Points totals, Victory Cry.

Wednesday, Sept. 26: Spirit Couch, How to "RUEBALL" Like a Spartan.

Thursday, Sept. 27: Spirit Couch, How to "Display Your Talent" Like a Spartan, Victory Cry.

Friday, Sept. 28: Spirit Couch Winners for the football game, How to "Have Crazy and Insane Spartan Spirit" Like a Spartan.

Additional events:

Variety show, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, Sparta High School.

Homecoming Parade Details:

Route: floats/vehicles only assemble at SHS parking lot. The band and any groups walking or not on a float/vehicle will be asked to join at the Monroe/Water "official" route starting point). Only vehicles will be allowed on Montgomery street.
-head out of the parking lot EAST on Montgomery
-follow Montgomery to Benton, head SOUTH on Benton
-follow Benton shortly to Monroe Street, head WEST on Monroe

OFFICIAL START POINT-follow Monroe shortly to Water Street, head SOUTH on Water
-follow Water to Oak Street, head EAST on Oak (there may be a slight change at the last minute if the construction on Oak is not complete-details would be announced if need be)
-follow Oak to Tyler Street, head NORTH on Tyler
-follow Tyler to Franklin Street, head EAST on Franklin to the field, where the parade will finish/disassemble.

Time: The parade will depart SHS at approximately 1:35 and expect to officially start the parade from Monroe/Water at 1:45. It is expected this parade will last longer due to its lengthier route, so please plan accordingly.
