Physical education at Sparta High School is very fitness-based and students are able to try a variety of activities including Zumba, weight lifting, a "Couch to 5K" program, fitness testing, goal setting, biking, snow shoeing, and adventure education using the school’s climbing walls. The biking unit was utilized to transport the students to the golf course.
“We try to get all kids to find at least a couple of things that they enjoy so that they will choose to stay active once they graduate. With childhood obesity and other related illnesses at an all-time high, it is so important that we all choose to movement and exercise as a part of a healthy lifestyle,” teacher Jennifer Butzler said.
“It is our hope that our physical education program can help inspire within our students a love of physical activity that they can carry with them throughout their lives. Learning to include physical fitness within their lives will not only help improve student's physical health, but it also helps give our students so much confidence when they learn they that can push themselves to accomplish something they thought was impossible,” Butzler said.
